About Edel

With 3 years of hands-on experience as a behaviour-savvy veterinary receptionist in fast-paced clinics, I’ve improved my ability to read animal body language, understand behavioural cues, and communicate effectively with both pets and their owners. This role gave me a deep understanding of animal care, common health issues, and the importance of meeting animals where they are—physically and emotionally.

Complemented by 4 years of dedicated volunteer work in animal rescue, I’ve worked with a diverse range of animals. My own behaviourally complex rescue dog inspired my career change and my love for animal education. He has shown me firsthand how patience, compassion, and tailored approaches can transform an animal’s well-being.

Previously a human ICU nurse for 13 years, I bring a structured, caring approach to my work. My background in healthcare has taught me the value of observation, adaptability, and clear communication—skills I now apply to pet care. Interestingly, there is quite a crossover between the
healthcare for human and non-human animals.

My Services:
Tailored Care for Every Pet

I’m now expanding my services to offer trusted dog walking and drop-in care across South Dublin, combining my practical experience with ongoing education in
Clinical Animal Behaviour at the University of Edinburgh. This unique blend allows me to provide care that’s not just loving, but also informed by science
and behavioural insight.

Typical Visit:

Duration:
Walks range from 20 to 60 minutes, tailored to your dog’s energy level, age, and health needs. Short visits (20–30 minutes) are ideal for potty breaks,
gentle play, habituation to new people or companionship, while longer walks (45–60 minutes) are perfect for high-energy dogs or those needing extra
exercise and mental stimulation. Please provide as much information about your pets' likes, dislikes and any special needs as possible.

Structure:

Arrival:
I’ll spend the first few minutes observing your dog’s mood, energy, and any cues they’re giving. If they’re anxious or excited, I’ll adjust my approach to
help them settle.

Activity:
For walks, I adapt the route and pace based on your dog’s preferences—whether that’s a brisk walk in the park, a sniffari and decompression walk, or a quiet
stroll in the neighbourhood. For drop-in visits, I might engage in gentle play, cuddles, or simply sit with your pet to provide companionship.

Departure:
I’ll ensure your dog has all they need before I leave, and I’ll always update you on any notable observations.

Every pet is unique. From the less confident to a social butterfly, from the young, energetic to the senior or mobility-limited pets, I'll tailor my approach to their individual needs.

Hands-On Skills

Behavioural observation: I’ve gained experience in reading body language (tail position, ear position, vocalisations) to assess your pet’s comfort and communication.

Positive reinforcement: I use treats, praise, and play to reward good behaviour and build confidence.

Basic training support: While I don’t offer formal training, I can reinforce ongoing training and favourable behaviour during visits if your dog enjoys it.

First aid awareness: My veterinary background means I’m familiar with pet first aid and can recognise signs of distress or illness.

Medication administration: If your pet requires medication during a visit, I’m comfortable giving oral meds, applying topical treatments, or handling injections (if trained by you).

I treat your pet as if they were my own—with patience, respect, and a commitment to their well-being.
