About Amy

I'm currently an American student at Trinity College Dublin, studying History and Political Science. Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and I would love to help you care for yours! I worked with horses from ages 7 to 15, and have worked with all kinds of dogs. While in high school, my mom and I took in rescue dogs, both fostering and adopting. I have spent most summers and all of my Christmas holidays at home with the dogs as well. I can handle multiple dogs at once, and at times we had six medium-to-large dogs in the house. Of the dogs my family has adopted: I have raised two puppies, a Bloodhound, Grace, and a hound mix, Echo. I have cared for two senior dogs, who required involved and consistent care, a Great Dane/Pointer mix, Zoe and a German Shorthaired Pointer, Jake. Jake had very bad arthritis and heart problems, and Zoe had Osteosarcoma, so I'm well versed in administering medication and maintaining quality of life as much as possible. Mowgli, a pointer/lab mix, has Canine Autism, and caring for him means he relies on a consistent routine and multiple spots around the house where he'll feel hidden and safe. For Mowgli, it's so important to make sure he doesn't get too overstimulated, so I'm used to keeping an eye out for that. Finally, we have Connor, a Red-tick Coonhound (also known as an American English Coonhound). Connor was rescued from an extremely abusive household, and has severe anxiety. He has always adored my mom, who initially rescued him, but is terrified of anyone else. It has been about three years now, and it has only been in the past year that Connor feels comfortable around me, and he has gone from avoiding me at all costs to cuddling with me at any opportunity. In addition to them, we've fostered many dogs, and I've helped them through potty-training, aggression (especially food aggression, and, especially, anxiety. Working with these dogs has been one of the greatest things I've ever done, and I'll always be so proud of the dogs I've met and helped. I've learned so much from them, and I treasure every one I've met. Working with your pet would be more different. They are your family members, and they should be treated as such. I have the experience, and I have so much love for what I do.

My work experience involves home improvent. I worked with a family owned small business, flipping and renting out houses and apartments. I'm extremely handy, and I have lots of experience in the field of getting my hands dirty! Additionally, I've worked on three political campaigns in the states, where I was involved of a lot of day to day paperwork and data entry. My favorite part of the job, though, was working with and training volunteers and canvassing. It was hard, hard work that consisted of long days and dealing with every kind of person under the sun. Why bring this up in an application to take care of your pets, you may ask? I believe my experiences with campaigns and in the work of renovating houses is a solid example of who I am and how hard I work. I put my heart into the smallest tasks, and this will be no different! I'm dependable and optimistic, and so excited to work with you!
