About James
I’m a healthcare professional from New Zealand living in Shankill with a lifelong love of animals. I grew up around dogs and cats and have always naturally been the person family and friends rely on to care for them. Over the years, I’ve also spent time dog sitting in both New Zealand and Australia, looking after a wide range of dogs (from energetic younger dogs to older, senior dogs who needed a gentler routine, patience, and a calm approach). I’ve also been involved in basic training and day-to-day care, so I’m comfortable with different temperaments and behaviours.
My background in healthcare has shaped a calm, reliable, and attentive approach to caring for animals. I’m used to being responsible, detail-focused, and responsive to individual needs, which carries through into how I care for pets. I genuinely enjoy building trust with each animal and making sure they feel settled and secure.
I offer dog boarding, daycare, dog walking, and home visits. Boarding and daycare take place in my home in Shankill, where pets are cared for in a calm, relaxed environment with plenty of attention. I aim to keep routines as close as possible to what your pet is used to at home, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, and any medication requirements.
To help ensure every pet has a positive and stress-free experience, I ask that owners let me know about any behavioural concerns before the booking, including separation anxiety, excessive barking, escape tendencies, reactivity, or any special care requirements. Honest communication helps me provide the safest and most suitable care for your pet.
Boarding is best suited to dogs who are comfortable staying in a home environment and can settle when left for short periods if needed. For first-time boarding dogs, I recommend a meet-and-greet beforehand and, where appropriate, a trial daycare or overnight stay before longer bookings (if your dog is anxious and not used to boarding). For dog walking, I usually walk dogs locally around Shankill area and nearby green spaces or coastal areas. Walks are calm and tailored to each dog’s energy level, typically around 30–60 minutes depending on their needs and routine.
In the unlikely event of an emergency, I will contact you immediately and follow your instructions. If urgent veterinary care is required, I will take your pet to a local vet straight away and stay with them until you can be contacted. Your pet’s safety and wellbeing are always the priority.
