My Pet Past:
I really enjoy working with animals. My first dog Guy, a staffie x jack russell, was the most intelligent obedient dog I have ever met. Together we attended fun dog shows - two of which he won Overall Champion - as well as many other rosettes in obedience, child-handler, sausage catching, tail wagging, mixed breed and senior dog.
My first pony, Girl, I attempted to train with a natural-horsemanship approach, mixing principles of Parelli, Monty Roberts and Elsa Sinclair. My pony and I developed a mutual trust, and there was evidential development. However, with education commitments, I rehomed her to a friend who slowly started training her in western-style riding.
I have always enjoyed reading and learning more about animals and their behaviour. I interact with animals on a personal and patient level.
Experience with the Pets of others:
Experience walking most dog breeds - either for work, neighbours, or at the rescues.
Daily check-ins on cats or dogs.
For the last three months of 2022, I dog-sat a sweet three year old Golden Doodle called Sammy. During that time we got to work on and begin to overcome some of his issues and unwanted behaviours including separation anxiety, pulling on the lead, poor recall and listening skills. He learned many new tricks and skills and I really saw an improvement in his confidence and assertiveness.
I have also helped with the duties of looking after working labradors during the summer and minding the neighbours and family members cats, dogs and fish while they're away.
