About Leigh

About me: Hi there! My name is Leigh, I'm a 4th year student at Trinity and absolutely love dogs (and miss mine at home!) I have raised two dogs on my own, one of which I raised for a year and a half as a service dog in training; as a puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence, I received a puppy at 8 weeks old and cared for her for 18 months until I turned her into advanced training to become a full fledged service dog (her name is Bracken, she is the white lab in my photos!). I started her training, taught intermediate commands, and trained her for public outings, bringing her to all my classes, the grocery, to museums, and anywhere else appropriate for her training level. Prior to her, I raised my family's husky/lab pup, so I am very experienced in dealing with the stubborn (but charming!) husky attitudes. Overall, I am very experienced in basic and intermediate training and am particularly strict with proper leash behavior, which is crucial when it comes to dog walking in a busy city. Additionally, I worked at a boarding and training facility where I performed daily care, including basic medical care, and some basic training when handling the head trainers board and train clients. I have experience with fearful, aggressive, and other special needs dogs as well! I am confident and competent in my abilities to care for dogs.

Dog walking: I am a very active person walking everywhere and would love to take your pup with me! I take lots of walks in Phoenix Park and St. Stephens Green but love exploring areas farther from the city centre as well, such as Malahide Beach and Bull Island. I am happy to do walks as short at 30 minutes, or as long as a couple hours -- whatever you want for your pup! On all walks I will bring along fresh water and a bowl, I will send lots of pictures, and I will never take the dog off leash. I adapt my route to suit the dog; for a reactive dog, I will go a quieter route and avoid close encounters with other pups, for older dogs I will take shorter and easier routes, etc. just let me know what your dog needs and I will provide it! Note on reactive dogs: I am comfortable with baskervilles/muzzles and am vigilant to avoid dangerous interactions, but please make sure you communicate this with me so that I can provide your dog with the best possible experience.

Walks 1 hour or less: I am available anytime before 6pm Friday-Monday for short walks!

Walks over 1 hour or outside city centre: If you would like a walk longer than an hour, or you live somewhere farther than a 15 minute commute from city centre (TCD area) please book at least 3 days in advance and message me to make sure I will be able to facilitate it :-)

Home visits (30 minutes): From the everyday to basic medical needs, I am capable of providing all sorts of at-home care, like playtime, taking out to potty, and feeding. I am very experienced giving medications and I am properly trained on "pilling" dogs who aren't very excited about their meds. For pups who require special care, please message me before booking.

Availability: I can do at home visits anytime before 6pm from Friday-Monday with 1 or 2 checks per day.

What you can expect: I send lots of pictures, I am quick to respond and I communicate openly. I will always keep your pup on their best behavior and will ensure their safety and happiness at all times! I am very experienced with training and care and you can be sure that your dog will be in safe hands with me.

In terms of other fluffy friends, I am a cat lover myself and have 2 kitties back home in the States and have always grown up around cats. I am happy to check in on cats while you're on holidays; clean the litter box, give fresh water, feed meals, play with social kitties, and hang out with cuddly ones.

I also have experience taking care of rodents, predominantly hamsters, but have handled ferrets in the past and would be very willing to learn how to take care of them! Additionally, I love reptiles and amphibians and although I have never owned one myself, I have babysat turtles and geckos and would happily care for any type of pet you have! No matter the pet, I will give them the best care possible and love them as my own.

Training: I puppy raised a service dog in training from 8 weeks until 1.5 years old, training her basic commands to intermediate ones (hold, get, heel and side, under, back, get). I am a stickler for leash obedience and will maintain good manners with all of the dogs I walk -- and I can patiently and kindly instill good manners in the pups who need a bit more help :-) Additionally, I trained my family's pet dog. He is a husky mix, making him particularly stubborn. Nonetheless, I have made him an exceptional adventure dog with a consistent recall, great leash manners, and a paddle-boarding pro. I can work with dogs of all different attitudes and find success in patience and understanding dog behavior. Puppies: I love puppies -- but of course, who doesn't! I know all about potty training, teething, kennel training, and starting off right away with good manners. Basic medical care: Knowledgeable with giving pills, ear and eye drops, changing diapers, and dressing for minor wounds Dog-aggressive dogs: I am not an expert but I do have some experience with dog aggressive dogs and am comfortable caring for them and taking them for walks, so long as you openly communicate to me the dogs behavior's and provide any extra equipment you use for safety, such as a baskerville or a warning vest for public outings Senior dogs: I am experienced and comfortable caring for them, just let me know their needs! Boarding: I am not providing boarding services at this time.
